Genie Clean (1998) Limited (“Genie Clean”, “we”, “us” or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, how our website uses cookies, and the rights you have – in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, including the changes introduced by the Privacy Amendment Act that took effect on 1 May 2026.
Information we collect from you
We collect personal information when you contact us for a quote, book a service, apply for a job, or otherwise get in touch. This may include your name, phone number, email address, property or business address, and any details you provide about the work you need done. If you apply for a role with us, we may also collect your CV, work history and any other information you choose to share.
Information we collect from other sources
Sometimes we receive personal information about you from someone other than you. For example, a property manager, body corporate, builder or business may give us your contact details when arranging a clean at your property, or a referee may provide information about you if you apply for a job with us. Where we collect information this way, we will take reasonable steps to let you know what we have collected, why, and where it came from, unless an exception under the Privacy Act applies. In most cases, this policy – together with our first contact with you – is how we do that.
How we use your information
We use your information to provide quotes, schedule and carry out cleaning services, respond to enquiries, process payments and invoices, and communicate with you about your booking. If you have applied for a job with us, we use your information to consider your application, carry out reference checks and get in touch about opportunities. We do not use your information for anything beyond what is reasonably needed to run our business and provide our services.
Marketing communications
We only send marketing emails or messages if you have asked for them or would reasonably expect them – for example, because you are an existing client. Every marketing message we send includes a clear way to unsubscribe, in line with the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007. Opting out of marketing never affects the service you receive from us.
Sharing your information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share it with our staff and contractors where needed to carry out a job, with trusted service providers who help us run our business (such as accounting, IT and website services), or where we are required to by law. Any third party we work with is expected to keep your information secure and use it only for the purpose we have shared it for.
Some of our service providers, such as Google, store information on servers located outside New Zealand. Where information is held overseas, we only use providers we reasonably believe protect it in a way comparable to the safeguards of the New Zealand Privacy Act.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. Our website uses cookies and similar technologies for two purposes: to make the site work properly, and to understand how visitors use it so we can improve it.

We do not use cookies to show you advertising.
Managing cookies
You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics specifically using Google’s opt-out browser add-on. If you block essential cookies, some parts of the site may not work as smoothly.
Keeping your information secure
We take reasonable steps to keep your personal information secure and protected from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. We only keep your information for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law, and then securely delete or de-identify it.
Privacy breaches
If a privacy breach ever occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and the people affected as soon as practicable, as the Privacy Act requires.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. To do either, or to ask any question about how we handle your information, contact us using the details below. We will respond as soon as we can, and within the timeframes set by the Act.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if our services or the law change. Any updates will be posted on this page with a revised date.
